The place
Forte da Cruz was built to guard the sea road into Lisbon, one of the chain of forts that watched the coast for centuries — and was later remodelled into the storybook castle that stands on Tamariz Beach today. It is that rarest thing: a genuine castle by the sea that exists almost entirely for celebration. Ceremonies happen on stone terraces above the waves, dinner in halls behind battlement walls, and the Atlantic provides the soundtrack from first vows to last dance.
